You may have opened this accidentally, when trying to access one of your backups. Or perhaps you were trying to access someone else's! In any case, you ended up with my file instead. Don't be alarmed. Instead of downloading your preferred file, you accidentally visited bakup.zip the domain.
You see, Google recently released a bunch of new TLDs (Top-Level-Domains), including ".zip" and ".mov". Both of these are also file extensions. Some security researchers believe this to be a bad move for the general public, and a great move for malicious actors.
Thankfully, many security researchers rushed to buy up some of the more dangerous domain names. Domain names like "familyphotos.zip", "homework.zip" or "financialstatements.zip". In your case, you accidentally downloaded a file from "bakup.zip". Yes, with a typo.
In any case, you may feel like reaching out. You may do so by writing to
research [at] bakup [dot] zipI'd love to hear from you and how you ended up with this zip file
It is best if you don't make a habit out of downloading strange files from the internet. Unfortunately even the best of us get tricked into doing so. It's possible that next time you try downloading an innocuous looking .zip file, may contain malware. Stay safe out there.
